What is the typical size worn by kids and teenagers?
Sizes can vary at any age, so we recommend checking your child's or teenager's size if possible. There are several free ring sizing phone apps available that can help with this. If you're not able to measure for a size, [we typically recommend Size 4 for ages 7 - 10 years and Size 5 for 9+ years old.] We include a clear rubber sizer to help if you are in-between sizes.
What materials are your jewelry made of?
Most of our jewelry is made of 925 sterling silver, although some select pieces are crafted from stainless steel. Each piece is then plated in either 14K gold, 18K gold, platinum or rhodium. Finally, we use a process called electrophoretic deposition - a process developed for the aerospace industry - to apply a final protective coating around the metal. All of our gemstones are placed into their setting - they are never glued.
All of this helps ensure that your Starlette jewelry is beautiful, durable, water and tarnish resistant, and hypoallergenic.
Will my ring tarnish?
Because all of our jewelry is fashioned from either 925 sterling silver or stainless steel, then plated in another precious metal like gold, platinum or rhodium and finally sealed with a protective electrophoretic coating, your Starlette jewelry should not tarnish, even with everyday wear.
Why do you use Cubic Zirconia gemstones?
Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is an incredibly rare natural gemstone (less than 200 deposits have ever been discovered). However, it is also one of the very first stones that scientists were able to grow in a lab.
Traditional "white" cubic zirconia has similar visual properties to diamonds, which has made it a popular choice as an affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to diamonds for almost 100 years. We use CZ in a lot of jewelry because it is beautiful, versatile (CZ can be made in a variety of cuts and colors), and more environmentally and socially responsible than diamonds - and we believe that using high quality CZ provides the best overall value to our customers.
Just like diamonds, cubic zirconia has a quality grading standard that ranges from 1A to 5A. All Starlette stones have a minimum rating of 3A. We adhere to this high standard of quality to ensure that your Starlette jewelry delivers maximum sparkle and durability, even with everyday wear. And the best part? It's more affordable than diamonds, so you can get maximum sparkle, style and quality without spending thousands of dollars.
Do you carry 1/2 sizes?
At this time, we don’t carry ½ sizes but we do have clear rubber sizers available that will help your ring fit more snugly.
What is lab-created vs simulated?
These terms are somewhat interchangeable, but companies may use them in various ways for different marketing purposes.
For example, natural diamonds are formed from carbon atoms deep in the earth that bind to each other in a specific way over millions of years of intense heat and pressure. Lab-created diamonds are grown from carbon atoms using a special process that mimics the heat and pressure the earth uses to create natural diamonds - so chemically they are identical, but one forms in the ground, while the other is made in a lab.
At Starlette, we use primarily lab-created cubic zirconia stones, which is grown from zirconium dioxide. Because it so rare in nature compared to diamonds and other colored gemstones, almost all cubic zirconia is grown in labs.
The most important thing as a consumer is to make sure that you understand exactly what you are buying. If a gemstone is "lab created" then it should be chemically identical to one found in nature. Especially if you are purchasing a lab-created diamond online, it is important to make sure that you have a certificate of authenticity and warranty to help protect you against fraud.
