Our Materials
Metals
Most affordable “fashion” jewelry is made from base metal alloys like bronze, brass, or pewter. While these may be less expensive and easier to work with, they're also less durable than precious metals and are known to cause skin irritation, discoloration, and other allergic reactions. In contrast, precious metals are much more rare, durable, and valuable.
Starlette jewelry is made almost exclusively from hypoallergenic, precious metals including Sterling Silver, Gold, Rhodium, and Platinum. Some select pieces are made from stainless steel for its strength and durability, which is also a hypoallergenic metal.
Stones
Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is a naturally occurring gemstone that was first discovered by German mineralogists in 1937. CZ has similar visual properties to diamonds in terms of clarity and sparkle. Because of this, it was one of the first gemstones to be grown in a lab – helping to pave the way for more environmentally and socially responsible jewelry production.
Just like diamonds, CZ has a formal quality rating system (1-5 scale), based largely on the same “4C’s” of Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight. Starlette uses only 3A+ rated Cubic Zirconia stones in our jewelry.
